The black cherry wood used in this ring comes from a 35+ foot tall black cherry tree that came down in my back yard. I cut it in lengths of about 6 feet, sealed the ends with wax, and let it cure for over a year. Afterwards, I split the logs into quarters and let them dry in my shed. Firstly, the GI's needed coffee in the field. Secondly, German U-boats were sinking boats with coffee shipments from Brazil making coffee hard to get.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRationed coffee was packaged in glass containers, which were not only reusable, but also saved precious tin resources for the troops. It originated in an old tobacco barn constructed in the late 1800s. It's over 100 years old based on the date of the barn, and the tree likely another 100 as well. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhen the settlers first came to the New World they forests untouched for centuries with a canopy of colossal trees as far as the eye could see. Much of that old growth is gone, which is sad, not only because we don't have the opportunity to see what our ancestors saw, but also because trees begin to exhibit different characteristics the older they get, and it shows in the wood. We feel fortunate to hold a piece of history, one that was alive and steady when the future of our nation was so uncertain.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eColorado Elk\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe elk antler in this wedding band is sourced from natural sheds of Colorado Bull Elk. While I'm a fan of hunting and get out a few times during the season, I like the thought of these rings being connected with a grand creature still roaming that beautiful country.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eJust like wood, each antler has unique characteristics that make every ring one of a kind. Some of our elk antler inlays will have a bit more color to them, while others are quite white. The black cherry wood used in this ring comes from a 35+ foot tall black cherry tree that came down in my back yard. I cut it in lengths of about 6 feet, sealed the ends with wax, and let it cure for over a year. Afterwards, I split the logs into quarters and let them dry in my shed.
